Shades of deja vu

Zizou got sent off in the last ten minutes of the WC final. Schumi had an engine failure in the penultimate race, and we all know what happened because of that. Now, in probably what will be his last world cup innings, Sachin gets out for a duck.

I am not angry at India for losing. Thoroughly disappointed yes, and angry at those “fans” who are going around burning posters and attacking houses. I feel sorry, sorry that Dravid Ganguly and Sachin can never lift a World Cup now. We should not be cursing their names or attacking their houses. We should realise that these players have sacrificed more than what most of us can imagine doing. The years of work they put in comes to naught in a day and what right have we, we who recline on the sofa and watch the match, we who have no clue what it feels like to have to guess in half a second which way a ball travelling at 140 kph will swing while a billion pairs of eyes are watching, in short we the arm-chair generals, to scoff at and insult those men who have dedicated their lives for the sport?

If cricket were my religion, Sachin would be my god. Just for Sharjah, just for WC2003. I need no better reasons.

Zidane showed Ronaldinho who was still boss. Schumi didnt let the world forget that F1 was not all about who had the fastest cars. And Sachin… it just pains me to see him suffering like other mortals.

I hope Bermuda thrash Bangladesh.

The noble art of…

‘Allo all you avid readers ! I am back yet again ! Doesnt really look like I am a guy whos going write his boards in 2 months does it ? Well I cant help it, tomorrows english and I am here taking a “well deserved” break. And thanks for asking, math didnt go all that badly.
Well as part of my break, I was watching the match. The test series looks like its going to be another whitewash with Kumble ripping through the Lankans’ heart. Get it? He has got the lions’ heart ! haha well anyway I am not here to talk about the cricketers. I am here to talk about those noble men who keep us occupied in between deliveries by displaying their er..speaking skills and knowledge of the game. Wiki says a commentator is “Spontaneous, enthusiastic and makes partisan comments”. Wiki was probably talking about me and ninju. Most commentators I see on TV have a gift for pointing out the very obvious. During the recent match, one of them(thank god I dont know their names) said “Sehwag is now talking to the umpire”. Yes, I could see that for myself and the cameraman even zooms into Sehwag’s face to assure us that he was indeed talking to the umpire.
Some times commentators point out the not-so-obvious. In the first innings, Irfan Pathan(arguably a better batsman than most “batsmen” on the Indian team) was facing and some bowler(If some of my classmates see this they would lynch me but hey I can claim that the srilankans all have similar sounding names and whats more, they seem to be changing their bowlers every match). Well so back to the story, Pathan swung and missed. The ball pitched a foot behind and well wide of the stumps. The commentator said “Pathan played completely around that yorker and was beaten all ends up by it”. Who changed the definition of yorkers without telling me ??
I am not against commentators or anything. They spend their valuable time to keep us occupied during those few moments which would have otherwise been spent watching Agarkar rub the ball on his pants/whatever they rub them against. They render this noble service and expect/get nothing in return(Dont tell me they actually get paid for that). If they do get paid, Ninju our futures are made da !
;-)

Note for those who arent aware : Ninju is my “partner in crime” in class
